[...] New News - The basic idea of this one is pretty solid - recreate the fun and excitement of a real newsroom online. I think I’d actually use it, which is a good litmus test since I actually don’t use most of the new sites I read about on a daily basis.
Thanks Sam! I like the idea around revenue generation. Another option might be the ability for other news services to submit stories to the crowd (i.e. A tech magazine that pays to have an article fact-checked). In general, though, there's always value to a big media property. The focus here should be on building out a world-class service first and letting the revenue follow.

If you're interested in building this out, definitely go for it! I should probably re-post some of my ground rules around reuse of the ideas posted here, but in general I absolutely encourage anyone and everyone to steal these ideas and implement them ASAP. Most of this stuff I would never get around to doing anyway, and it would be very cool to see some of these ideas come to life.

I really like this idea and I know it would work well in a niche market such as personal finance.

However, where is the revenue model beside traditional ads. One option - a subscription service for a personalized version of the service.

I could build the site using Ruby on Rails - if your or someone else is interested.

The fact that we would have any role other than "write a rough draft and publish it immediately so I get it before anyone else" would make this a gem and truly stand out from some of the problems with internet news.

If this service was already up and running I'd definitely take a look at it, just to have a go at writing. Interesting idea.
